Echter wordt het minder vaak geteeld omdat het vatbaarder is voor ziekten en lagere opbrengsten biedt. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Forastero<\/strong> is het meest voorkomende type cacao, goed voor ongeveer 80-90% van de wereldwijde cacaoproductie. Het staat bekend om zijn robuuste smaak en ziektebestendigheid, waardoor het een populaire keuze is voor commerci\u00eble cacaoteelt. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Trinitario<\/strong> is een hybride van Criollo en Forastero, die de beste eigenschappen van beide cacaosoorten combineert. Het heeft een complex smaakprofiel en is ziektebestendiger dan Criollo, waardoor het een voorkeur heeft voor fijne cacao. <\/p>\n<h2>Laatste cacaoclassificatie<\/h2>\n<p>Deze oorspronkelijke classificatie is echter niet gebaseerd op genetisch DNA-onderzoek en weerspiegelt niet de rijke genetische diversiteit van cacaopopulaties die in de Amazone worden waargenomen.<\/p>\n<p>Deze diversiteit is ingedeeld in <strong>tien genetische groepen:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Amelonado<\/li>\n<li>Contamana<\/li>\n<li>Criollo<\/li>\n<li>Curaray<\/li>\n<li>Guiana<\/li>\n<li>Iquitos<\/li>\n<li>Mara\u00f1on<\/li>\n<li>Nacional<\/li>\n<li>Nanay<\/li>\n<li>Pur\u00fas<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Meer recent is cacao ingedeeld in elf genetische groepen, met de toevoeging van een aanvullende groep gelegen in Colombia en genaamd \u201cCaqueta\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Het genetisch DNA-onderzoek naar cacaosoorten is pas recent begonnen en voor de toekomst wordt verwacht dat nieuwe vari\u00ebteiten en veel nieuwe subsoorten zullen worden ontdekt en
